What VictronDashboard does, who it's for, and how it compares to VRM itself.

What is VictronDashboard?

VictronDashboard is an installable PWA that reads from your own Victron VRM Portal API and lays the same underlying data out in a more readable, more useful way than VRM's own screens — DC-only consumption history, tank levels in real units instead of just percent, solar potential measured against what you actually harvested, and a dashboard you can rearrange to match how you use your system.

Is this an official Victron Energy product?

No. VictronDashboard is an independent, third-party app and is not affiliated with Victron Energy. It works by calling the same VRM Portal API that Victron makes available to any VRM account holder.

Who is it for?

Anyone with a Victron GX device (Cerbo GX, etc.) logging to VRM who wants more out of that data than VRM's stock screens show. It's especially aimed at boats and older systems where a lot of the load is DC — VRM's main graphs are AC-focused and don't chart DC consumption at all, and battery banks without DVCC (no direct Victron battery communication) don't get the full picture from VRM's summary widgets either.

Do I need a Victron system to use this?

Yes. VictronDashboard doesn't collect its own data — it displays data your own Victron GX device is already logging to your VRM Portal account. You'll need an existing VRM account with a personal access token to connect it — generate one at vrm.victronenergy.com under your name (top right) → Preferences → Integrations → Access Tokens.

How does it handle my VRM token — is it safe?

Your VRM personal access token is stored only in your own browser, never in our database. Requests are relayed through our server to reach Victron's API (VRM only allows API access from certain origins), but the token itself is never logged or saved server-side — it transits the relay per-request and nothing else. History you choose to bank locally for longer-term trends is also stored only in your browser (IndexedDB), not on our server.

What does it show that VRM doesn't?

DC consumption history (VRM's own graphs are AC-only), tank levels in gallons/liters instead of just percent, AC loads shown in amps as well as watts, solar potential compared against real weather data for your location, and history that outlives VRM's roughly six-month retention window because the app quietly banks it locally as you use it. It also automatically corrects generator/alternator numbers for systems without DVCC, where Victron's own Hub-1 accounting folds alternator current into the generator figure.

What's the Insight page?

Insight is a monthly retrospective — instead of live tiles, it looks back at a full calendar month and surfaces what's worth knowing after the fact: generator and alternator runtime and efficiency, an overnight reserve trend, an "unaccounted overnight power" estimate (the gap between what your loads report drawing and what the battery actually gave up — mostly inverter conversion loss), and a battery health summary for systems without a dedicated Victron battery monitor. It answers "how did last month actually go," not "what's happening right now."

What's the "SOC Goal" generator planner?

If you set quiet hours (Settings → Dashboard) — a window where you don't want to run the generator, like an anchorage courtesy period — the Dashboard's SOC Goal tile works out whether you'll need the generator to reach your target charge level before that window starts, and if so, roughly when to start it and how long to run it. The estimate nets your live load, the generator's actual measured output (or your own configured rating), and a real hourly solar forecast for the rest of the day, rather than just extrapolating current conditions flat. It also detects when the generator's already running and shows an ETA instead of a start time, and lets you set a target below 100% if you'd rather stop short of a full, slow absorption-stage top-off.

What does it cost?

VictronDashboard is free to create an account and use — there's no paid tier or subscription. An optional one-time donation is available for anyone who wants to support ongoing development, but it's not required for any feature.

What devices and browsers does it work on?

It's a browser-based PWA, so it runs anywhere first and installs to a home screen or desktop on most platforms. Best supported: Chrome/Edge on desktop, and Safari or Chrome on iPhone/iPad/Android for full-screen "Add to Home Screen" installs. Firefox (desktop and Android) works as a regular tab but has limited or no install support. Full platform-by-platform detail is on the home page.

How is this different from just using the VRM Portal or VictronConnect app?

VRM and VictronConnect are Victron's own tools and already do a lot — VictronDashboard doesn't replace them, it fills specific gaps: DC consumption charting, real-unit tank and load readouts, solar yield-vs-forecast comparison, longer local history retention, and a dashboard layout you control instead of a fixed template. If your system doesn't have those gaps, VRM's own screens may already be enough.
